Dance to Thrive: New Company Enhances Lives Beyond 55!

Dance to Thrive, a pioneering dance program company founded by Karen Burnette, has launched its innovative services focused on partnership dance for adults aged 55 and above. The Colorado company, based in the Denver metropolitan area, works with local senior communities, dance teachers, and senior education outlets to build awareness of the benefits of partnership dance.

About Founder Karen Brunette

With years of dance and teaching experience behind her, Karen began teaching partnership styles of dance like Ballroom, Swing, Latin, and Two Step over 25 years ago. She discovered her passion teaching adults 55+ while witnessing the incredible value this activity offers. “Dancing with a partner is a joyful activity that offers a unique combination of physical, cognitive, and emotional benefits which are especially important to older adults,” says Karen. “My mission is to broaden the awareness and availability of dance programs for seniors. In founding Dance to Thrive I can pursue my mission to make a positive impact on Colorado’s 55+ adult community."

Company Service Highlights
  • Dance Program Development for Senior Communities: Karen works with all types of senior communities – including 55+, continuing care, senior centers, and active adult programs within rec centers – helping them establish dance programs. She creates an end-to-end experience by advising on dance class setup, finding a dance teacher for the class, promoting the program through lively presentations to community members, and mentoring on social dance planning. In fact, Dance to Thrive is the only company along Colorado’s Front Range pairing 55+ communities with dance teachers. She minimizes the effort required for senior activity leaders to set up an original program, while offering their community members an exciting new way to enjoy an active lifestyle.

  • Dance Teacher Placement: Karen invites dance teachers to join the Dance to Thrive roster and then connects them to nearby senior communities as class programs are developed. Dance teachers interested in adding classes to their regular schedules and working with senior dance partners can effortlessly find new opportunities to teach. “By connecting dance teachers to senior communities,” Karen says, “they each benefit, and together, we're able to make a significant impact on the lives of more seniors. Nothing could be as fulfilling as enabling this equation!”

  • Social Dance Events: Dance to Thrive plans, manages, and hosts large social dance events that are open to all in the Denver metropolitan area, with the aim of bringing more dance partners together to dance, socialize, and connect with a local dance community.

Karen is an enthusiastic advocate for senior partner dance and shares her experiences and outcomes with news outlets and senior publications. She is eager and available for interviews to continue to spread the physical, cognitive and emotional benefits of dance.
